What is a CVV on a Capitec Bank Card?

Ever tried to buy something online and been asked for a CVV number? It can be a bit confusing, especially if you're not sure what it is or where to find it on your Capitec card. I remember the first time I was asked for it, I spent a good few minutes staring at my card, completely clueless!
The CVV, or Card Verification Value, is the three-digit number on the back of your Capitec card. It’s usually to the right of the signature strip. This number is an extra layer of security for when you're shopping online or over the phone. It proves that you have the physical card with you and helps to prevent fraud.
Where to find the CVV on your Capitec Card
Finding the CVV on your Capitec card is easy once you know where to look. Here's a simple guide:
1. Flip your card over: The CVV is on the back of your card.
2. Look for the signature strip: You'll see a white or silver strip where you can sign your name.
3. Find the 3-digit number: To the right of the signature strip, you'll see a three-digit number. That's your CVV!
I once had a bit of a panic when I was trying to buy a gift for my friend's birthday online. I was in a rush and couldn't find the CVV on my card. I ended up having to call the bank to ask where it was. It was a bit embarrassing, but now I know exactly where to find it.
What about Virtual Cards?
Capitec also offers virtual cards, which are great for online shopping. A virtual card is a digital card that you can use for online purchases without having to expose your physical card details. Each virtual card has its own unique card number, expiry date, and CVV. You can find these details in the Capitec app.
I love using my virtual card for online shopping, it feels so much safer. Plus, you can create and delete them as you need them, which is really handy. I use it for everything from buying data to ordering takeaways.
Keeping your CVV safe is really important. Don't share it with anyone, and be careful when you're entering it online. Only use it on websites that you trust.
And speaking of online transactions, did you know that you can earn vouchers for things like airtime and data by playing games and completing surveys on the Points Castle app? It's a great way to get a little something extra for your online activities.
