Which Capitec Branches Do ID Cards

Going to Home Affairs can be a real mission. I remember when I had to renew my ID card a while back, I had to take a whole day off work just to get it sorted! The queues were so long, and the whole process was just a headache. So, when I heard that some banks were starting to offer Home Affairs services, I was really excited. It just makes so much more sense to be able to do everything in one place.

A lot of people have been asking which Capitec branches do ID cards. The short answer is that Capitec is in the process of rolling out this service to selected branches. It's part of a partnership with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to make it easier for South Africans to get their Smart IDs and passports.

The Capitec and Home Affairs Partnership

Capitec has joined forces with the DHA to bring these essential services closer to the people. This is great news for all of us who have been putting off going to Home Affairs. Soon, you'll be able to apply for your Smart ID or passport at the same place you do your banking. How convenient is that?

The plan is to roll out these services in phases. They are starting with a small number of branches and then expanding to more locations over time. The goal is to have the service available at 100 branches by early 2026, and then at 250 to 300 branches after that. So, if your local Capitec branch doesn't offer this service yet, don't worry, it might be coming soon!

I was chatting with my friend the other day, and she was saying how she's been waiting for this to happen. She's a busy mom with two kids, and she just doesn't have the time to spend a whole day at Home Affairs. She's really hoping that our local Capitec branch will be one of the ones to get the new service. It would make her life so much easier.

How it Will Work

When the service is available at your branch, you'll be able to go in and have your photo taken at a special Smart ID terminal. This is for if the DHA doesn't have a suitable photo of you on their system. You'll also be able to do your fingerprints and signature right there in the branch.

This will save you a lot of time and effort. No more having to go to a separate place to get your ID photos taken, and no more long queues at Home Affairs. You'll be able to get everything done in one go, while you're doing your banking.

While you're waiting for this awesome new service to come to your local Capitec branch, did you know you can earn some extra cash on the side? I've been using the Points Castle app to do surveys and play games in my spare time. The points I earn can be redeemed for all sorts of cool vouchers, like Takealot and airtime. It's a great way to make a little extra money without having to do much.

As the rollout is still in its early stages, it's a good idea to check with your local branch to see if they are offering the service yet. You can also keep an eye on the Capitec website for updates.
