How Does Pep to Pep Courier Work?

PEP offers a courier service called PAXI, which allows you to send and receive parcels between different PEP stores (and other partner stores like Tekkie Town and Shoe City) across South Africa. It's a convenient and affordable way to send items without needing a traditional home delivery service.

PAXI started in 2015, initially for sending documents for Unisa students, but it quickly grew into a full parcel delivery service due to customer demand. They use the large network of PEP stores as drop-off and collection points, making it easy for many people to access.

How PAXI Works: Sending Your Parcel

Sending a parcel with PAXI is pretty straightforward. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Prepare Your Parcel: Make sure your item is safely packed in a strong, sealed box or bag. This helps protect it during its journey.

2. Find a PAXI Point: Head to your closest PEP, PEP Home, or PEP Cell store. These stores act as PAXI points.

3. Buy a PAXI Bag: At the store, you'll need to buy a PAXI bag. They come in different sizes, usually standard (up to 5kg) and large (up to 10kg). The cost of the bag depends on its size and how fast you want your parcel to arrive.

4. Provide Details: Tell the staff you want to send a parcel via PAXI. You'll need your ID and cellphone number, as well as the receiver's name and cellphone number. You'll also need to know the PAXI store code, name, or suburb of the PEP store where the person will collect the parcel.

5. Choose Delivery Speed: You can pick between standard delivery (7-9 business days) or express delivery (3-5 business days). The express option costs a bit more.

6. Pay and Get Tracking Slip: Pay for your parcel and keep the receipt. It will have a tracking number that you can use to follow your parcel's journey.

7. Tell the Receiver: Let the person you're sending the parcel to know it's on its way and give them the tracking number. They'll get an SMS when it arrives.

I remember once needing to send a birthday gift to my niece in a different province. I was a bit worried about how long it would take and if it would be safe. I decided to use PAXI. I bought the standard bag, packed her present, and filled in all the details at my local PEP. The process was super easy, and the staff were helpful. I chose the 7-9 business day option to save a bit of money, and it arrived within that timeframe. My niece was so excited!

Tracking Your PAXI Parcel

Keeping an eye on your parcel is easy. PAXI sends you SMS updates as your parcel moves through their system. You can also track it online on the PAXI website or through WhatsApp by entering your tracking number. The tracking number is usually found on the slip you get when you send the parcel.

PAXI parcel costs depend on the size of the bag and the chosen delivery time. A standard bag (up to 5kg) for 7-9 business days can cost around R59.95, while the 3-5 business day option for the same size is about R109.95. For a large bag (up to 10kg), the 7-9 business day service is around R109.95, and the 3-5 business day service is about R139.95.

One time, I was selling some jeans online, and a customer from a rural area wanted to buy them. I was struggling to find an affordable courier service that delivered to his location. Then I remembered PAXI. Their wide network of stores, even in smaller towns, meant I could send the parcel to his nearest PEP store without any fuss.

It's important to remember that if a parcel isn't collected within 14 days, it will be returned to the sender. If it's still not collected after that, it might be sent to a special facility and disposed of, so make sure your receiver knows to pick it up on time!
