It can be a real pain when you need to buy airtime but you don't have the Capitec app on your phone. Maybe you're out of data, or your phone doesn't have enough space for another app. Whatever the reason, you can still buy airtime from your Capitec account without the app. The quickest way is to use a USSD code.

Just dial \*120\*3279# from your phone and follow the prompts. It's a simple menu that lets you buy airtime for yourself or for someone else. You can also buy data and SMS bundles this way.

Buying Airtime with USSD

There's another USSD code you can use: \*130\*3279#. This one is handy if you've run out of airtime completely because it's a free call. I remember being stuck once with no airtime and no data, and this USSD code was a lifesaver. I was able to top up my phone and let my family know I was running late.

Using USSD is great because it works on any phone, even the old ones that don't have internet. It's also very secure because you'll need to enter your Capitec PIN to approve the transaction.

Buying Airtime with Online Banking

If you have access to a computer, you can also buy airtime through Capitec's online banking website. It's just as easy as using the app.

1. Go to the Capitec Bank website and log in to your online banking profile.

2. Once you're logged in, look for the "Transact" or "Buy" tab.

3. Select "Airtime" and follow the instructions.

4. You'll need to enter the cell phone number you want to top up, the amount of airtime you want to buy, and your PIN to confirm the purchase.

I use this method sometimes when I'm already on my laptop paying bills. It's convenient to do everything in one place.
