How to Connect DStv to My Internet Router

Connecting your DStv decoder to the internet is a simple process that unlocks a world of on-demand content. You can connect your DStv Explora or Explora Ultra to the internet using either a Wi-Fi connection or an Ethernet cable. Both methods are straightforward and will have you streaming in no time.

To connect your DStv to the internet, you have two main options: using the built-in Wi-Fi on newer models or using a DStv Wi-Fi Connector for older models. If you have a newer Explora, you can simply connect to your home Wi-Fi network. For older models, you will need to plug in a DStv Wi-Fi Connector. Alternatively, for a more stable connection, you can use an Ethernet cable to connect your decoder directly to your router.

Connecting via Wi-Fi

This is the easiest way to get your DStv decoder online. If you have a DStv Explora or Explora Ultra with built-in Wi-Fi, here is what you need to do:

1. Press the "Settings" button on your DStv remote.

2. Go to "System Settings."

3. Select "Connectivity Setup."

4. Your decoder will then scan for available Wi-Fi networks.

5. Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.

6. Enter your Wi-Fi password.

And that's it! Your decoder should now be connected to the internet. I remember when I first did this, I was so excited to finally be able to watch all the shows I had missed on Catch Up. It was a game-changer for my weekend binge-watching sessions.

If you have an older Explora model that doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi, you'll need to use a DStv Wi-Fi Connector. It's a small device that you plug into the USB port on your decoder. Once it's plugged in, you can follow the same steps as above to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Connecting via Ethernet Cable

For a more stable and reliable connection, using an Ethernet cable is your best bet. This is especially true if your decoder is far from your router and the Wi-Fi signal is weak. Here’s how to do it:

1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your DStv decoder.

2. Plug the other end of the cable into a LAN port on your internet router.

3. Your decoder should automatically detect the connection and connect to the internet.

I recently helped my friend set up his DStv with an Ethernet cable because his Wi-Fi was a bit spotty in his living room. He was amazed at how much faster everything loaded and that he no longer had any buffering issues. It's a simple fix that can make a big difference. You can find out more about how the internet connection works with your DStv in our post about how DStv internet works.

Once you're connected, you can enjoy all the benefits of a connected DStv, like Showmax, BoxOffice, and an extended Catch Up library. The best part is that you don't need to pay extra for these services if you're already a DStv subscriber.
