How to Install a DStv Decoder

Installing a new DStv decoder can seem like a big task, but it's actually something you can do yourself. You don't always need to call in a professional. With a little bit of patience and this guide, you'll be watching your favorite shows in no time.
The short answer is that you need to connect your decoder to your satellite dish and your TV, then power it on and follow the on-screen setup instructions. This setup wizard will guide you through scanning for channels and activating your subscription.
Your Step-by-Step Guide to DStv Installation
Here is a simple guide to get your DStv decoder up and running.
1. Connecting Everything Up
First things first, you need to connect all the cables. Take the cable coming from your satellite dish and screw it into the LNB-in port on the back of your decoder. Then, use an HDMI cable to connect the decoder to your TV. I remember the first time I did this, I was so worried I'd mix up the cables, but they are all clearly labeled which makes it much easier. Finally, plug in the power cable but don't switch it on just yet.
2. Power On and Follow the Wizard
Now you can switch on your TV and then your DStv decoder. The decoder will boot up, and you should see a setup wizard on your screen. This wizard is your best friend. It will guide you through the whole process. If you ever get stuck on this part, you can check out our guide on how to clear the DStv installation wizard.
3. Getting a Good Signal
The setup wizard will help you check your satellite signal. This is a very important step. Without a good signal, you won't get any channels. I once spent a whole afternoon trying to figure out why I had no picture, only to realize my satellite dish had been knocked out of place by a storm. If you are having trouble with your signal, you might need to adjust your dish. We have a helpful article on how to check my DStv signal strength. If you see an E48-32 error, it's usually a signal problem. You can find out more about how to fix the error E48-32 on DStv.
4. Activating Your Decoder
Once you have a good signal, the decoder will scan for channels. After the scan is complete, you'll need to activate your DStv subscription. You can usually do this online or by calling the DStv customer care number.
